What does a typical day on safari look like?

A typical lodge safari includes an early-morning wildlife activity, time to relax during the middle of the day, and another activity in the afternoon. Meals and timings vary by camp, and some itineraries use full-day game drives with packed lunches instead of returning to the lodge between outings.

A common lodge schedule looks like this:

  • Early morning: Wake-up call, coffee and a game drive.
  • Late morning: Breakfast or brunch.
  • Midday: Rest, reading, swimming or other available lodge facilities.
  • Afternoon: Tea followed by another wildlife activity.
  • Evening: Dinner and time to unwind.

The programme changes with daylight hours, weather, wildlife movements and local operating rules.

Private vehicles may offer greater flexibility, but activities still follow park regulations and guide judgement. Tell your guide about your interests and preferred pace at the start of your stay.
