How many days do you need for a safari?

Four to six safari nights provide a useful starting point, while seven to ten nights allow a more relaxed exploration of different wildlife areas. Aim for at least three nights at each camp where possible, and allow additional time for international travel, city stays or a beach extension.

The right trip length depends on how far you travel and how many areas you want to explore.

  • Three–four nights: Suitable for a focused stay in one reserve.
  • Five–seven nights: Allows more wildlife-viewing opportunities or a carefully planned two-area trip.
  • Eight–ten nights: Offers more room for contrasting habitats and a relaxed pace.

Avoid changing camps too frequently. Transfers take time, and settling into one area can be more rewarding than rushing between destinations.

Wildlife sightings are unpredictable, so extra time creates opportunities without guaranteeing particular animals or events.
