Rwanda gorilla permit

Rwanda’s standard gorilla trekking permit costs US$1,500 per person for one trek, including up to one hour with a habituated gorilla family, as checked in October 2026. Accommodation, transport and porter services are additional, and permits should be booked early because daily availability is limited.

Gorilla trekking takes place in Volcanoes National Park under the supervision of park guides and trackers.

The standard permit allows one trek and up to one hour with a habituated gorilla family once the group is located. It does not cover your lodge, transfers or porter services.

Visit Rwanda currently lists:

  • A standard permit price of US$1,500 per person.
  • A minimum trekking age of 15.
  • A maximum of eight visitors per gorilla family.
  • Limited daily permit availability.

Trek duration varies with the gorillas’ location and trail conditions. Book permits before finalising other arrangements, and check cancellation or amendment terms when booking.
